If your computer is still running Windows 10, there’s something you need to know.
On October 14th, 2025, Microsoft will officially stop supporting Windows 10. That means:
- No more security updates
- No bug fixes
- No support from Microsoft
Your computer won’t suddenly stop working, but it will become more vulnerable. If you use your computer for email, online banking, or storing important files, you should take action before October.
So, what should you do?
Plan A (for most people): Upgrade to a newer computer before October
This is the safest and easiest option. New computers are smaller, faster, and more secure than older models, and you don’t have to spend a fortune. You can even go for a refurbished or secondhand machine that still runs Windows 11 smoothly.
We can help you pick a good one and move everything over with no stress.
Is there another option?
Yes, but it’s not for everyone.
Microsoft has announced a (sort-of free) one-year extension programme called Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10. It’s not automatic, your computer needs to be set up in a specific way. You can either:
- Configure your computer to backup through Microsoft’s system through a personal Microsoft account and get one year free, or
- Pay around $30US to keep getting updates for a bit longer
This may be useful if you’re really not ready to upgrade yet, but we don’t recommend relying on this long-term.
Not sure what your best option is?
We can help you
- Figure out if your current computer will support Windows 11
- Decide whether to upgrade now or hold off a bit
- Make the switch as smooth and painless as possible
